I have been downloading various freeware and proprietary (but free with purchase of component) monitoring utilities for stats of my new system.
Anyone have a link to a one-stop total computer monitoring freeware that will give me all the vital components to monitor my system?
Cheers,
Alex

Maybe I'm just a tin foil hat paranoid:
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 6:31 AMI have long felt that freeware has a purpose other than that which it purports to have. Maybe I'm paranoid but I rather suspect that there is some marketing crap in built most of it that's designed to gather data that some marketing geek somewhere will pay for. -

Re: Maybe I'm just a tin foil hat paranoid:
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 10:19 AMWhich is all easily discovered.
I can tell you whenever a peice of software I am using decides to "phone home" and I am not all that sophisticated. People smarter than me regularly get into the guts of these things and will make a lot of noise when something is or appears to be amiss.
As for the software I posted, thats how it was introduced to the market. Its a way to gain market acceptance and name recognition rather quickly. I have used the free edition and recently purchased the $35 Ultimate Edition which provides more stats than that earlier free version.
So, yea, tinfoil hat paranoid. Google is your friend when it comes to vetting any peice of software. -

Re: Maybe I'm just a tin foil hat paranoid:
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 10:37 AMMight as well recommend the following as well:
1) Sygate Personal Firewall (freeware that tells you when and what is trying to access the network, allowing you to approve or deny)
2) Ethereal network protocol analyzer (freeware that tells you where its going and what external networks are trying to communicate with your computer)
