Nope, it comes with. Just make sure you are careful when you open the box and handle the heat sink. It will already be on there.
As far as the rest goes, nice choice and especially the Asus pick.

Der.. that should have been prefaced "POWER SUPPLY"
I had a bit of wine.

Re: My potential new rig
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 3:31 AMAnother question about my new rig:
I am currently using a Compaq Presario SR1503WM. I have Windows XP Home on it.
Due to my employment at University of Georgia, I can get cheap copies of XP pro UPGRADES.
I'm thinking I will use Seagate's Data Transfer tools to "ghost" my current IDE harddrive to the new SATA and then apply the XP pro update to it. and using the new license code associated with that. I then plan on repurposing the old HD and comp as an ubuntu box to play with..
Seeing as how I am technically moving the OS to another comp, I don't see how this would be a license violation where Microsoft would hunt me down. ;-)
My question is: Think I might run into a problem after moving the XP Home drive data even getting to where I can apply new XP Pro Upgrade? Seems I read the OEM OS installs on Dell's, Compaq's, Gateway's, etc.. are "coded" to the computer they are installed on and woudl register a conflict if the computer is not still composed of the same components...
Could anyone help me separate myth from reality?

You should have no problems. Unce gosted just pop the xp pro in and choose upgrade.
It is somewhat true about the OEM xp's but it will not or should not effect your xp pro upgrade.
As far as the ubuntu goes, you may want to think about GOS (good opreating system) www.thinkgos.com
It's Debian/ubuntu with goodies for Google apps. -

Re: My potential new rig
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 1:53 PMThanks for the assurance. I would have thought as much, but its good to get some affirmation. I know $700 is not a lot of money on the general scheme of things, but I want to be sure it is money well spent.
In RE: gOS.... Sheeeshh!!! Not another linux-based wunderkind!! :-) Seriously, it would be nice if these folks could boil it down to about three or four main linux distros and then concentrate on taking down MS as the "only game in town". The reason MS has done so well is that the company is composed of thousands of people chanting "Miiiiiii-crosoft" like zombies after brains. Linux folk may be just as (or more) passionate, but they are whistling so many different tunes that there is dissonance. God, I love mixing metaphors!!
gOS looks interesting and definitely worth giving it a shot, but I am just getting my feet wet with ubuntu linux. I know all the distros are the same under the hood, but the hundreds of them out there are a big part what are scaring John and Jane Q Public in the first place. People are happy with choices. People tend to get frustrated with too many choices.
Four main distros with "user -group focuses" (that could talk to each other readily.. all being linux) with people devoted to upgrading and tweaking each as a single unit could KILL MS in shortorder: There are so many brilliant linux developers out there. Just wish they could come together a bit more.
Sorry about the rant.
And thanks again for the tips and feedback.
Cheers

Re: My potential new rig
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 1:40 PMDang it... I screwed up and made the most basic of mistakes.
I got a PSU without two PCIexpress cables (I wound up trying to pick one out on my own when i saw how much shipping was on the rosewill combo).
By the time I found out, it was too late to change my order.
Oh, well, lesson learned.... and I won't need that second cable til I get the second video card, and I may be just fine without it...
I just want to play Oblivion. :-)
